"Be sober; watch. Your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking someone to devour:" 1 Peter 5:8 The recent high school conference in Pittsburgh was very enjoyable. The weekend covered Luke 22:24, 31-33, and 1 Peter 5:5-8. Peter was overly self-confident of his faith in Jesus. He told Jesus that he would be ready to go with the Lord to prison and even to death. But Jesus warned him that Satan planned to "sift" him like wheat. Jesus, however, told Peter that He would be praying for him and his faith. He prayed that Peter's faith would not fail and that Peter would continue to turn to Him, that Satan would not get a hold on him. I really appreciated this story because it made me think of my personal walk with the Lord. Many times I go to conferences like these and come home burning for the Lord. And I tell the Lord that I'll never leave His presence. Sometimes I become self-confident that I'll always be with the Lord and that I'll never leave the church life. But Jesus warns us not to be too self-confident because we need to realize that Satan is like a lion walking around, seeking to devour us. But praise the Lord! Jesus is our mediator! He prays to the Father for us, that we would not lose our faith. He prays for us even when we don't have the confidence. Later on in the book of Luke we see that Peter denied the Lord three times; he was unfaithful to the Lord. Jesus, however, was faithful to Peter and He loved him even when Peter denied Him. In the same way, even if we are not faithful to the Lord, the Lord is always faithful to pray for us. I am just so appreciative and thankful to the Lord for all He is doing in my life, that He is alway praying for me when I stray. |
